Wolverine Caden Cramer named Athlete of the Week

Weiser High School senior Caden Cramer won the honor of being named the Idaho Statesman’s and Edmark Toyota’s Treasure Valley Athlete of the Week on Sept. 25 for his outstanding play on the soccer field.
Voting took place online for two and a half days on the Idaho Statesman’s website.
Cramer was nominated during the week of Sept. 16-22 for his play during the Baker game on their home turf. While normally a midfielder, coach Kathy Bokides put him in as a sweeper to help cover a missing player. His impressive playing helped keep the defensive game to a 0-0 score.
“It’s an honor to be Athlete of the Week, although I feel my whole team deserves it, not just me,” Cramer said.
It’s that sense of teamwork that had Bokides put Cramer in the sweeper position in the first place.
“Trying to find a replacement for that position is tough. They have to be fast, they have to communicate with Gabe (Rasmussen, the goalie), and make good decisions back there,” she said.
She continued,” I thought Caden would be the safest back there. He was very reluctant to do it. But for him to step up and play it like he did, we would have never had a 0-0 game otherwise. Gabe did a great job too, everyone did. But him stepping up and filling in was outstanding.”
Cramer, who plays soccer and golf for the Wolverines, said, “I love how soccer brings us together as a family. It brings me closer to the school, and makes me get more involved with the school.”
When asked if he wanted to continue playing the position, Cramer said he would play it, but it’s not his favorite.
“I love center-mid, being able to get the ball up past midfield and have opportunities to score,” he said.
“I just want to thank the person who nominated me, and my whole team, for being there by my side. And thank you to all the voters,” Cramer said.
