Wolverine boy’s soccer team coming together as a team

Teamwork is the name of the game as the Weiser boys soccer team continues their season.
Tuesday, September 29, the team traveled to McCall for the second game in a row against the Vandals.
It was perfect soccer weather up among the trees. Weiser took the opportunity to change up strategies and try different defensive tactics against the Vandals.
“The game with McCall was pretty even the first half,” Bokides said
McCall took control of the ball right off and made a quick attempt at the goal, but Weiser defended the goal and worked well together for the next several minutes keeping it out of the net.
Goalkeeper Gabe Rasmussen had a great save in midair from a corner kick attempt. Play continued at the Weiser net with an attempt by McCall’s lead scorer off a Weiser foul, but again it was unsuccessful.
The Wolverines gained control of the ball and headed down the field for some play at the McCall net with a goal attempt that was blocked. McCall took back the ball, determined to score, but Rasmussen blocked three attempts in a row to keep the score 0-0.
Down the field again, Weiser had a chance to score off another foul but McCall defense kept it out of the net. The next ten minutes of play was evenly matched as the teams moved back and forth across the field with neither team able to move the ball close enough for any goal attempts. Weiser displayed the growth of their teamwork with solid touches and passes as they worked together.
Then the Vandals upped their game and kept the ball near the Weiser net. They had four shots on goal, but Weiser defense blocked all of them.
With six minutes left in the first half, Weiser fouled inside the goal, which meant a penalty kick for McCall. These are tough kicks to defend, as the goalkeeper has the entire goal to defend alone, with no help from teammates. Vandal top scorer, Bernard Kindall, was shooting. Whistle – ball in play. Kick – blocked by goalkeeper Rasmussen! Weiser ended the first half with an attempt at the McCall net, but no score ending the first half at 0-0.
Second half of the match McCall took the ball again to the Weiser goal.
“Only three minutes into the second half, Weiser was caught on their heels. McCall played give ‘n go passes up the middle of the field, followed by a goal by #7 (Kindall),” Bokides said.
This put the first score on the board. The Vandals brought the ball back to the Weiser net for another attempt by Kindall, but this one was blocked.
The Wolverines pulled things together and moved the ball down the field for their own attempt to score, but it was too wide to go in the net. Again, play went back and forth for a period of time with no one close enough to attempt a goal on either end. Then the Vandals powered down to the Weiser net and put the ball right past the goalkeeper for a second score.
Ten minutes of play followed with some strong passes and stops by Weiser, but they just weren’t able to move the offensive game down to the net.
The last 20 minutes of the game was more of the same. Yellow cards on both sides were given, including one to Weiser for repeated fouls and one to McCall for mouthing off to the referee, but neither the Wolverines nor the Vandals were able to make any more scores count. Game ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of the Vandals.
