WHS rack up wins, bring record to 6-2-1

Scoring 100 percent of eight shots on goal in the second half, Weiser’s Wolverine varsity boys’ soccer team won the conference match 8-1 against The Ambrose School Archers in Meridian on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
The first half was a drought in netted goals for both teams, but the Wolverines put their strong passing attack to work in the second, with forward Alex Magana almost immediately scoring from an assist from halfback Edgar Torres. Two minutes later, halfback Alfonso Hernandez sent the ball to Torres for Weiser’s second goal.
Hernandez scored a high chip shot for the third on a solo shot 12 minutes into the half. Fourteen minutes later, he passed to Torres to chalk up Weiser’s fourth point on the scoreboard.
At 73-minutes, a pass from forward Danny Clemmer to Magana landed the shot for the Wolverines’ fifth goal. Just four minutes later, Clemmer turned an assist from Hernandez into another Wolverine score.
The Wolverines put an exclamation point on the win with Raffi Delgadillo passing to Marcos Tarelo to pummel the net for the seventh. Hernandez then teamed up with Magana for the eighth goal.
Magana led with three goals, and Hernandez with four assists in the win. Hernandez earned MaxPreps Player of the Game honors for his four assists and one goal in the half.
Wolverines defeat Pirates 7-1
The Wolverines added another win on Thursday, Sept. 16, beating their SRV rival Payette Pirates 7-1 in Payette.
Pirate defenders held off Weiser’s offensive attack for 21 minutes into the first half, until Wolverine forward Raffi Delgadillo took a pass and shot the ball behind Payette’s goalie Oscar Hernandez. Seven minutes later, Delgadillo scored a second goal for Weiser.
With just under six minutes left in the half, a Payette foul gave Weiser’s Marcos Tarelo a penalty kick from about 40 yards out. The kick sent the ball just over the goalie’s fingers, sliding down the net behind him to move the Wolverines to a 3-0 lead.
Payette took several shots in the first half, with Weiser’s defenders turning the ball back and goalie Justin Padilla making two saves.
Tarelo opened Weiser’s scoring 10 minutes into the second half, netting the ball from inside the goal box. Edgar Torres followed up, jumping up in front of the goal line and heading the ball behind the goalie. Torres landed Weiser’s sixth goal off an assist from Padilla, who had switched from goalie to forward in the second half.
Pablo Hernandez scored the Wolverines seventh goal on a direct penalty kick with 15 minutes left in the half.
Weiser’s defense pushed up in an effort to force the Pirates into off sides during the second half. A foul on Weiser, with under four minutes left in the half, gave Payette a direct penalty kick, with Alan Cisneros scoring the Pirates goal. Attending the goal for Weiser in the second half, Diego Delgadillo made one save.
The Wolverines win moves their conference record to 4-0, and 6-2-1 overall.
