WHS Homecoming week moved to Oct. 15-19

Opponent Payette High School cancels rest of varsity season

Weiser High School will celebrate Homecoming during the week of Oct. 15-19 instead of this week, and the big game will be played against Homedale and not Payette.
The schedule change followed an announcement by Payette School District administrators last Friday that the remainder of the varsity football season has been canceled.
Officials said there were not enough players to field a team to play Parma last Friday due to injuries and issues with eligibility with some players.
Payette School District Superintendent Robin Gilbert notified the other schools in the SRV conference, including Weiser, of the decision to cancel the remaining varsity games. The reason given was “attrition due to injuries and other factors.”
The Wolverines were scheduled to play the conference rival Pirates this Friday night at Weiser’s Homecoming game.
“Of course, this is disruptive to the SRV league as schedules are made well in advance of the season and the opportunity to find replacement games at such a late date are difficult, but we understand the dilemma the Payette administration and coaches face and support their decision,” Weiser School District administrators said in a statement on Friday.
Weiser administrators tried to schedule another team but decided on Monday that the final home game on Oct. 19 against Homedale would become the Homecoming game.
District officials said they contacted several schools across the state that have openings in their schedules, but as of last Friday did not have a confirmed agreement to play on either date.
With the Payette game canceled and a bye for Weiser on the schedule for Oct. 12, the Wolverines won’t play again until they meet the Trojans for Homecoming.
Homecoming at Weiser High School is usually a week of activities that culminates with the big game on Friday night against a conference rival.
Students do a different dress-up day each day during the week. The Friday of Homecoming week will be red and white day, when students, staff and everyone in Weiser is urged to show off the school colors.
The homecoming parade usually is held on Friday. It follows a route through town that ends at Memorial Park.
The coronation of the 2018 king and queen will take place at an assembly on Friday. The court and their parents will be introduced at the game.
