Weiser wrestlers record lots of pins against Payette

A perfect score in a high school wrestling duel is 90-0, with six points given for each pin received.
Weiser wrestlers traveled to Payette on Wednesday, Jan. 16, topping the Pirates with an ending score of 82-0. Weiser wrestled tough against Payette, receiving just three forfeits and recording nine pins for the evening.
“Conference wins are something that we want and work toward every day.  At the beginning of the year, we returned to fundamentals skills and that focus got us a solid conference win against Payette.  If we continue to work hard on the basics, we will always be successful,” Coach Drew Dickerson said.

The Padilla Invitational Tournament was held in Parma last weekend.
At this tournament many of the best in the 3A district attend, including Weiser, Fruitland, Homedale, Parma, American Falls, and Gooding.
There are also some strong 2A, 4A, 5A and Oregon teams that attend. It is fierce competition and can be seeding criteria for the state tournament at the end of the year. Weiser took a solid third in the tournament, leading until the finals.
Coach Drew Dickerson noted, “Although it wasn’t the team finish that we wanted, we worked on small victories today. We have wrestled some of these guys before and the results were not what we wanted. Today we focused on the fundamentals like wrist control on the bottom, and moving our feet quicker and won those small victories. There was definitely some better controlled wrestling than we have seen in the past.”
 Individual placers were:
Second place: Seth Harris at 120 pounds, Kooper von Brethorst at 126 pounds, and Brody von Brethorst at 152 pounds.
Third place: Mason Strong at 106 pounds, Sylais York at 132 pounds.
Fourth place: Trae Gluch at 160 pounds, Rylee Willet at 195 pounds, and Darrian Hoobery at 220 pounds.
Weiser will host Parma, Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the high school.  This will also be senior night, so come on out and support your Weiser wrestlers!
