Weiser wrestlers beat Payette and Baker City

Weiser Wolverine wrestling celebrated senior night last Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Tom Falash Gym. Eight seniors were celebrated for their wrestling efforts and time put in. Those seniors are: Ander Barbot, Michael Despain, Braden Edwards, Conor Marsh, Matthew Morris, Mason Strong, and Kendyll Spencer.
All seven men have varying years of experience on the matt, but Kendyll has been coach Drew Dickerson’s lead statistician for the past four years.
“Each one of these seniors contributes to the team in their own individual way. They have strengths that make us better and I have thoroughly enjoyed each one of them,” Dickerson said.  “They will be missed.”
Weiser opened up the evening with a dual against SRV opponent Payette. Weiser won the match handily with a score of 78-10. The gym was full once again for some serious wrestling and the crowd had a great time.
It is interesting in SRV conference matches how some weight classes don’t compete. There is a huge amount of strategy that goes into each meet, especially when seeding criteria for state competition is involved.
 Individual results vs. Payette were:
285 pounds: Elijah Carter won by forfeit.
98 pounds: Bobby Nevarez lost by decision.
106 pounds: Billy Nevarez won by forfeit.
113 pounds: Aaron Despain won by forfeit.
120 pounds: Conor Marsh won by fall.
126 pounds: Kooper von Brethorst won by fall.
132 pounds: Ander Barbot won by fall.
138 pounds: Braden Edwards won by forfeit.
145 pounds: Max Kingsbury won by forfeit.
152 pounds: Matthew Morris won by fall.
160 pounds: Robert Sudderth lost by fall.
170 pounds: Malachi Hoobery won by fall.
182 pounds: Rylee Willet won by fall.
195 pounds: Oscar Cruz won by forfeit.
220 pounds: Jesse Lockett won by fall.
Weiser then competed against Baker City, who they have seen a couple of times this year. Baker City is a larger squad with multiple wrestlers in different weight classes. With only two forfeits added to Weiser’s score, Weiser still went the distance against them, scoring 60 points to their 21.
There were several exciting matches that were won in the last seconds and a huge reminder to fans that anything can happen in Weiser wrestling.
 Individual results vs. Baker were:

Weiser Wolverines will be back in action this Thursday, Feb. 6, in some District III and IV competition before the Weiser Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8.
Come out and support your Weiser Wolverines.
