Weiser track teams place second in season opener

The Weiser High School track team opened the season with a strong finish at the Parma Ice Breaker on Thursday.
 Both the Weiser boys and girls teams finished in second place out of a field of nine teams from around the Treasure Valley that made the trip to Parma.
 The Weiser boys finished in the runner-up spot to Nampa Christian in team scores with 153.5 points. Nampa Christian won the meet with a score of 182.75 points. Liberty Charter finished in third place with 104 points.
 The Weiser girls also took second place, one spot behind Nampa Christian. Weiser scored 172 points, a team total that was not far behind Nampa Christian’s score of 176.5 points. Liberty Charter came in third place with a score of 108 points.
 Weiser coach Dave Shirts said the event was a good opening meet for the teams.
 “We had a lot of kids doing high school track for the first time, and they got their feet wet.  We had some good performances from many of them, and also many of our veterans had a good day as well,” Weiser coach Shirts said.
