Weiser tennis picks up two wins over Nyssa, Payette

The Weiser High School varsity tennis team continues to impress with wins last week over Nyssa at home and league rival Payette on the road.
 The Wolverines traveled to Payette on Thursday for their first SRV Conference match of the season and dominated the Pirates on their courts, finishing the day with an 11-1 win.
 Weiser’s Grace Soulen played in the No. 1 spot in girls singles at Payette. She has played mostly mixed doubles so far this season. She picked up where she left off last year in single play by beating Brenna Gheen of Payette in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
 Playing in the No. 2 girls singles position for Weiser, Andrea Bouvia also had an easy match against Payette’s Rose Winsor. She gave up only one game in the match and won in two sets, 6-1, 6-0.
 The No. 3 girls singles player for the Wolverines, Britynn Seward, picked up another win for Weiser by defeating Payette’s Daphe Auxier 6-3, 6-1 to complete the sweep in girls singles.
 In girls doubles, the duo of Sienna McClellanand Brooke Anderson continues to win. They prevailed in a competitive match against Payette’s Sammy Del Valle and Kass Hernandez and won 7-5, 6-2.
 Weiser’s No. 2 girls doubles team of Emma Tolman and Denica McClellan gave up only one game in their 6-1, 6-0 win over Samantha Top and Sarah Delira of Payette.
 In boys singles, Weiser’s No. 1 Bryce Bake ran into a tough opponent in Payette’s Francesco Scarpelli and lost in straight sets, 2-6, 0-6.
 Playing in the No. 2 boys singles spot for Weiser, Eli To’omalatai didn’t give up a single game as he easily cruised to a win over Ethan Haag, 6-0, 6-0
 Eli’s younger brother, Isaac, played in the No. 3 singles spot for Weiser. He also had an easy afternoon in Payette and earned a win in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
 In boys doubles, Weiser’s No. 1 team of Kelvin Price and Mathew Westover beat Isaac Garcia and Matteo Ciampini in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1
 The No. 2 boys doubles team of Layton Tolman and Karson Brush didn’t give up a game in their easy win over Payette’s Chris Mott and Paden Whiteley in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
 In mixed doubles, Weiser’s Pedro Ixta and Bentley Weldon beat Payette’s Aubree Bradshaw and Journey Jones 6-2, 6-4
 In the No. 2 mixed doubles spot, Weiser’s Nate Lattin and Alexandra Froshiesar defeated Roque Banuelos and Megan Mckenzie, 6-4, 7-5
 An SRV Conference match scheduled at Parma on April 2 was rained out.

 The Weiser High School tennis team continues to beat non-conference opponents with a solid 13-6 win over Nyssa High School at home on April 1.
 The Wolverines were not joking around on April Fool’s Day when they took the courts at Memorial Park and proceeded to win almost all of the singles and doubles matches.
 In boys singles, Weiser swept Nyssa in all of the afternoon matches.
 Eli To’omalatai played in the No. 1 singles spot for Weiser and won his match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. In the No. 2 singles position, Isaac To’omalatai also won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
 Weiser’s Mitchell Westover did not give up a single game in his match, winning in a quick two sets 6-0, 6-0.
 In girls singles, Andrea Bouvia played in the No. 1 position and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win.
 Weiser’s Danielle Hoopes played three sets in a competitive match. Hoopes took the second set but couldn’t win the final set and dropped the match, 2-6, 7-5, 6-7.
 In boys doubles, the Weiser team of Matthew Westover and Kelvin Price beat their Nyssa opponents 6-4, 6-1. Karson Brush and Layton Tolman got the easy win in two sets, 6-1, 6-0.
 In girls doubles, Weiser’s No. 1 team of Sienna McClellan and Brooke Anderson cruised to a win 6-3, 6-0. Playing in the No. 2 doubles position, Weiser’s Denica McClellan and Emma Tolman won their match 6-1, 6-1.
 In mixed doubles, Weiser’s No. 1 team of Grace Soulen and Pedro Ixta won in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
 Weiser’s No. 2  mixed doubles team of Alexandra Froshiesar and Nate Lattin played a lengthy match but dropped the third set and the match to Nyssa, 4-6, 7-6, 2-6.
