Weiser scores 77 points in win over Payette

The Lady Wolverines hosted the Payette Pirates on Tuesday for their third district game. Both  teams advanced in the consolation round with one loss. The loser would be eliminated and the winner would advance to the consolation championship game.
It was a rocky start for the Wolverines, where they struggled to get the ball to go in. With confidence, Weiser stayed composed through that tough first quarter. Their focus and drive in the rest of the game propelled them in their 77 to 40 win over the Pirates.
Payette was playing well in the first quarter and made multiple tough baskets. Hitting three beyond the three-point line they quickly added points to their score.
On the other hand, the Wolverines struggled to get the ball to fall.
Weiser was able to stay within striking distance with points from the free throw line. At the end of the first it was Weiser 12, Payette 15.
From the beginning of the second quarter it was evident that Weiser was not backing down.
Weiser’s Tobie Noyer struck first with a three-pointer in the corner on an assist from Ivy Morris, tying the game at 15.
The Wolverines played tough defense, rebounded strong, and shot the lights out and took command of the game.
In the second quarter, the Wolverines were led by Morris as she made three three-pointers and a lay-in on a fast break with an assist from Noyer.
The Wolverines ended the half with some great teamwork. The ever hard-working Mattie Shirts with a steal, tried to pass it up court, the ball was tipped by a Pirate, sending it off its mark. Lindsay McConnell, playing smart, was able to tap the ball up court to a fast breaking Noyer, who put it in for two points. At half time it was Weiser 35, Payette 22.
Out of the locker room the Wolverines were on fire, scoring first with an easy floater in the paint as Noyer drove in.
Shirts rebounding strong was able to feed the ball back to the Wolverines with multiple defensive boards.
Maddy Erickson, a strong Wolverine leader, delivered a great pass inside to Noyer who was posted up on the block. Making the shot the Wolverines had a 17 point lead.
Payette was unable to work much past Weiser’s tough defense. They finally made their first points of the third with about two minutes remaining.
At the end of the quarter it was Weiser 52, Payette 30.
Weiser continued on their march to victory in the fourth, putting an additional 25 points on the board while only allowing Payette to score 10.
Erickson once again had a solid night with 19 points, closely followed by Noyer with 18. Every Wolverine contributed points, Morris 13, Shirts seven, Jasi Yraguen six, Jenifer Juarez and Macey Maloney with four. Rhianna Soliz, Elle Svedin, and McConnell each had two points.
Weiser will play Fruitland Thursday for a chance to advance to the state play-in game.
