Weiser Pond cleanup on June 2

Indianhead Fly Fishers, in partnership with the City of Weiser, will be holding its annual Weiser Community Pond Clean-up on Friday, June 2.
 Clean-up begins at 9 a.m. and will finish with a hot dog lunch, donated by Falls Brand (Independent Meat Co.) of Twin Falls.
 Everyone is invited to bring their gloves and gardening tools and chip in to help make the pond an attractive and functional asset to the community.
 “If you are a fisherman, find a spot you would like to fish and clean it up,” suggested organizer Mike Thomas. “If you are a dog walker, help clean the area around the path you use. If you use the benches and table for lunch, or whatever, help clean it up. If you use the dock, help the Elks with its maintenance. If you like to view ‘Billy Creek’ or ‘Pat’s Paradise,’ help make them look better. Bring whatever tools you might use to clean your spot and maybe a pair of gloves. The City of Weiser will provide some tools and will help you find a job when you arrive.”
 Indianhead Fly Fishers is a local nonprofit organization that promotes fly fishing. In support of its mission to help care for local fishing resources, the group has dedicated itself every year to maintaining the Weiser Community Pond, located at the south end of E. Fourth Street in Weiser. Every spring, following the long winter, the pond is in need of maintenance, which includes clearing out weeds and debris, cutting back overgrown vegetation, removing any trash that may be present, and more.
 The pond is a valuable community resource that features park benches, a walking path, and dock overlook that is ADA accessible, public restrooms, and an easily accessible shoreline and dock fishing near the Weiser River.
 Idaho Fish and Game regularly stocks the pond. According to the Idaho Fish and Game stocking report, which can be found at www.idfg.idaho.gov., the agency this year has already stocked the pond with rainbow trout. On Feb. 2, 2023, 496 were stocked, followed with 504 on March 14 and another 504 on April 12. The catch limit on rainbow trout at the Weiser Community Pond is currently two (2). 
 Other species of fish that can be found in the pond include Bluegill/Pumpkinseed/Sunfish and Largemouth Bass.
 The pond clean-up comes just one week before the IDFG’s free fishing day to be held on Saturday, June 10.
