Weiser hosts 30th annual wrestling invite

This last weekend, the Weiser wrestlers competed in the 30th annual Weiser Invitational. A total of 21 teams converged in Weiser for some tough match-ups.
Columbia walked away with the first place title and Weiser took fourth place behind Nyssa and Fruitland. The invitational has a rich history in Weiser of being one of the toughest tournaments.
The wrestlers face athletes that they will face in state, and it might even be said that the results of the tournament could be similar to the state tournament.
With that said, Weiser had some solid performances and some wrestlers did very well. Senior Brody von Brethorst had a third place finish for the team, while Darrian Hoobery shifted up to the heavyweight division for the tournament and finished fourth.
Coach Drew Dickerson noted that it takes a small village of people to put on this tournament each year.
“This tournament is a lot of fun and a lot of work. We have wonderful volunteers who show up to towel tap, run concessions, run the hospitality room for the coaches and refs, work the tables, and just do general cleaning. Without all of our volunteers and the long hours that they put in, this tournament would not be the success that it is. Thank you to everyone who helped,” he said.
 Individual placers for Weiser were:
Third place: Brody von Brethorst 152 pounds.
Fourth place: Conor Marsh 113 pounds, Seth Harris 120 pounds, Kooper von Brethorst 126 pounds, Rylee Willet 195 pounds, Darrian Hoobery 285 pounds.
On Jan. 31, in preparation for the Weiser Invitational, the District III and District IV schools came together for some tough matchups. Weiser, Fruitland and Parma, took on Kimberly, Buhl and Gooding.
These matches have state seeding ramifications and Weiser beat each team handily. Individual results vs. each team are listed below:
