The Lady Wolverines hit the road on Nov. 21 to the home of the New Plymouth Pilgrims. Weiser came out strong in the first quarter, shooting 43 percent from the field and outscoring the Lady Pilgrims to take an early 13-9 lead.
Senior Maddie Erickson and sophomore Mattie Shirts both had four points in the period. Senior Rhianna Soliz hit a three point basket and sophomore Tobie Noyer added a two point basket.
The Wolverines struggled to find their mark in the second period, with only Noyer scoring four points from the field while the Pilgrims added 11-points from the field and one from the line.
The Pilgrims continued to foul the Wolverines and despite their field goal woes, the Wolverines capitalized on the opportunities, shooting five for seven, and maintaining the lead 23-21 going into halftime.
The halftime break was not beneficial to the Lady Wolverines and baskets from the field and from the line would not fall.
Sophomore Macy Maloney hit one basket and one free throw during the third period and Noyer added one point from the line. The Wolverines’ four points paled in comparison to the Pilgrims’ 18-points and they fell behind for the first time in the game 27-39.
The Wolverines continued to struggle into the final period and only Erickson and Shirts were able to score from the field with two points each.
Junior Ivy Morris was fouled behind the arc and hit two of her three free throws.
The Wolverines’ six points in the final period was not enough to bridge the scoring gap with the Pilgrims adding an additional 13-points to their total to take the game 52-33 over the Wolverines.
Shirts led the Wolverines for the second game in a row with 10-points and Noyer was close behind with nine points. Erickson added six points to her stats, while Maloney and Soliz each had three points. Morris finished it off for the Wolverines with two points.
Much like the varsity squad, the junior varsity and frosh/soph teams also continue to search for their first tally in the win column. The JV team lost 39-47 as well as the frosh/soph team, but no score is available.
