Weiser has key players returning to the hardwood

The weather has made a significant change in recent weeks and with the changes outside comes the changes within the gymnasiums at Weiser High School and the sports conducted there.
Volleyball season has drawn to a close with the Weiser High School Lady Wolverines placing third in the Snake River Valley (SRV) Conference District Tournament, just missing a 3A State Tournament berth.
With the volleyball nets safely stowed for the season, out come the basketballs.
The teams were determined last week and Laraine Harrison, the varsity head coach, is proud to be at the helm of the Lady Wolverines’ basketball program again this year and is excited about the upcoming season.
Harrison will be aided by Taylor Roberts this season.  Harrison said, “She offers a lot of insight.”
At the junior varsity level, Coach Nikki Erickson will be returning as well as coach Dave Shirts leading the frosh/soph squad.
Harrison said, “I’m pretty lucky to have the assistant coaches that I have. They really do go above and beyond for our girl’s program.” She went on to say, “We are excited for what our season will bring.”
The Lady Wolverines lost five seniors in 2020, but have some key players returning to the hardwood for the 2020-2021 season.  There are also several talented young players that got their feet wet last year at the JV level and were very successful. They are expected to make a big impact on the varsity team.
Varsity returners are seniors, Madelyn Erickson, Jenifer Juarez and Rhianna Soliz. Junior Ivy Morris is expected to make an impact from 3-point land while sophomores Tobie Noyer and Mattie Shirts will be valuable in the paint and on the boards.  Jasi Yraguen will add some additional height to the Wolverine squad, and speed and aggressive play will not be a problem with the addition of Elle Svedin and Macy Maloney to the 2020-2021 roster.
The Lady Wolverines will begin their regular season play in Tom Falash Gymnasium at Weiser High School against non-conference competitors, the Melba Mustangs on Nov. 19, 2020.  This pairing is sure to be exciting and filled with speed.
Due to Idaho moving back to Stage 2 of Idaho Rebounds, no fans will be allowed in the gym. Home games will be streamed by Living in the News and away games on the NFHS Network.
