Weiser girls tie Payette, beat McCall-Donnelly in soccer action

Fans received a treat watching the Weiser High School girls soccer team take on Payette on Sept. 17.
The beginning of the game was balanced offensively, set to an aggressive tone. Weiser senior Marissa Moyle was a definite factor in the game. Her strong leg offered several attempts on goal.
Also boasting a few awesome long efforts on goal was senior Andrea Bouvia. Bouvia’s footwork was impressive and her ability to handle the ball was noticed by all.
A practical throw-in led to a hands call on Weiser and through that penalty kick, a yellow card was called on Moyle. It was an interesting call, as Moyle took a spectacularly hard kicked ball from 10 to 15 feet away to the body. The rejection of Moyle riled the Weiser team right up and Bouvia would strike with a score making the game 1-0.
Alex Bittinger was offered a challenge against a difficult Payette defender. Getting a free kick for the harassment, Moyle was not able to score off of the penalty.
Teammate Rhiana Soliz brought her quickness and skill to fruition and slid into the goal following her ball for the score bringing the game to 2-0.
The game was seemingly concluding and it felt like the game would end with a “W” for our Weiser girls.
In the last few minutes, and perhaps within a minute of each other, Payette would score twice and end the match in a tie.
It’s easy to see an improvement in the chemistry of the Wolverine team. The passing has become intentional, more accurate, and effective.
The ladies took to the road to McCall Sept. 19 and would beat the lady Vandals by a score of 2-1. A small score with big meaning for the team.
The McCall team is presently ranked fifth in the 3A division according to the Idaho State coaches poll. McCall is first in the SRV with their only loss coming from Weiser.
Brooklyn Werner, a sophomore at Weiser High School, scored both points for the team against McCall. WHS presently has an SRV record of 2-2-2, and overall record of 6-2-2.
The team has two home games left on Oct. 3, and Oct. 8 will be senior night.
Come cheer Werner and friends on at the field behind the high school, with access from West 7th near Indianhead Road. Cost is $5 to support the athletic department and soccer team.
