Weiser girls place third at Buhl tourney

The Weiser High School girls golf team traveled to Buhl on April 8 to compete in the Buhl Invitational against some bigger 4A and 5A schools.
The Lady Wolverines finished in third place out of a field of 17 teams that posted scores. The Weiser girls had a team score of 399 for a round of 18 holes. Twin Falls took first place with a score of 355 and Buhl finished second with a score of 371.
Senior Stella Beams had the best round for Weiser, shooting a score of 95 over 18 holes. Sara Lundberg was one stroke back with a 96. Sydnee Reyes finished with a score of 102, followed by Faith Lee, who shot a 106 and Ciana Fuller carded a 107.
Weiser coach Jon Lundberg said the trip to Buhl is a long one. The Weiser players get up at 4 a.m. and leave town at 5 a.m. for a 3.5-hour bus ride. Weiser travels the longest distance of any school.
The Weiser girls had to focus and concentrate for five hours and walked about five miles up and down a hilly course at the tournament, he said.
“I am very proud of the lady Wolverines for having grit on Monday,” Lundberg said. “It is a tough course with fast, difficult greens. It is a challenging day, but playing in this tournament has great benefits for us.”
