Weiser girls keep it close in 51-47 loss to Fruitland

The Lady Wolverines hosted the visiting Fruitland Grizzlies on Jan. 24 and a rough second quarter proved to be the determining factor in the close 51-47 conference loss for the Wolverines.
 The Lady Wolverines came out strong in the first quarter and outscored the Grizzlies 16-13.  
 Maddy Erickson had 6 points from the field and a free throw. Marissa Moyle and Ivy Morris each had a basket and Macy Moore had a bucket from behind the arc. Mattie Shirts struggled from the field but had some success from the line with 2 points.
 Someone placed a lid over the Wolverine basket in the second period with the Wolverines shooting 1 for 16 from the field and 1 for 7 from the line, allowing the Grizzlies to take a 10-point lead (29-19) at the half.
 Macy Moore and Ivy Morris had a big third quarter, helping to keep the Wolverines in the game.  Moore had a pair of 3-point buckets and Morris had one. Erickson and Moyle each had a basket and Bouvia had a free throw.  
 The Wolverines managed to add 14 points to their credit, but the Grizzlies stayed even with them on the scoreboard to maintain their 10-point advantage.
 The Wolverines stepped up their play on both ends of the court in the fourth quarter, holding the Grizzlies to a mere 3 baskets on only 9 attempts for a total of 8 points during the quarter. Moyle had 3 baskets and a free throw, Erickson had a basket inside the paint and one from behind the arc and Shirts had a basket for a 14-point quarter total.  
 However, despite the successful final period, the Wolverines came up short and lost the league pairing 47-51.
 Maddy Erickson led the Wolverines with 16 points and 7 rebounds, followed by Marissa Moyle with 11 points and 7 rebounds.  Macy Moore had a big game with 9 points, followed by Mattie Shirts and Ivy Morris with 5 points apiece.  Andrea Bouvia added 1 point.
 The Lady Wolverines will begin their post season with the SRV District Tournament at Treasure Valley Community College on Feb. 6.
