Weiser girls golf team earns conference win at Homedale

The Weiser High School varsity girls golf team braved a stiff wind last Wednesday to claim the title at the Homedale Ice Breaker, a 9-hole tournament at River Bend Golf Course.
Weiser posted a team score of 190 to win the SRV Conference event. Homedale finished 20 shots back in second place with a score of 210. Payette finished the tournament in third place with a score of 221.
Weather conditions were not ideal out on the course and challenged the golfers, Weiser coach Jon Lundberg said.
“It was a very windy day at River Bend Golf Course and that tested every golfer’s shot-making abilities and their grit and determination,” Lundberg said. “Every Wolverine represented themselves in the Weiser way very well. The girls played well as a team, especially Faith Lee, who shot a personal best and Sara Lundberg for being the medalist.”
Weiser senior and four-year varsity player Sara Lundberg shot the best round of the afternoon with a score of 40. She finished five strokes ahead of the second-best score. Lundberg has been the medalist in three tournaments so far this season.
Weiser junior Faith Lee carded a 45, which was her best round this season. Sydnee Reyes shot a 50, followed by Stella Beams, who had a round of 55. Ciana Fuller shot a 59 for the tournament.
The Weiser varsity boys team finished in fourth place with a team score of 189, just one shot behind Payette’s score of 188. Fruitland finished in first place with a score of 159 and continues to field a strong boys varsity team in the SRV Conference.
Homedale was runner-up with a score of 171. Senior Trojan Daniel Uranga, one of the top golfers in the SRV Conference, was medalist with the afternoon’s best round of 35.
Abe Konvalin led the Weiser boys in scoring with a round of 46. Caden Cranian was one stroke behind with a score of 47. Paul Crawford and Tim Reed each carded a 48 and Justin Estes rounded out the scores for Weiser with a 50.
Both the Weiser boys and girls varsity teams will travel to Parma’s Timberstone Golf Course for another SRV Conference tournament on Wednesday, April 17.
