The Wolverines best the Gooding Senators 61 to 29 in a decisive win

In a night of basketball palooza, the Weiser Wolverine girls faced off against the Gooding Senators for a chance to redeem themselves from a close 1-point loss earlier in the season.

The Wolverines came out on Friday night with focus and determination to secure a victory. In the early stages of the game, both teams traded leads, but by the end of the first quarter, Weiser had taken control and never looked back. They ended up winning by a decisive 32-point margin.
The teams remained scoreless for over 3 minutes until Gooding struck first on a lay-in after breaking Weiser’s full-court defensive press.
A few seconds later, Kailee Lerew grabbed a rebound and scored, giving Weiser their first points.
The Senators then went on a run, quickly increasing their score to 9, while the Wolverines remained at 3.
With just over 90 seconds left in the first quarter, Weiser picked up the pace and Ellie Shirts scored a 3-pointer with an assist from Evie Dolton.
By applying intense full-court pressure, Weiser was able to shut down Gooding’s offense and prevent them from scoring.
After eight minutes of play, the score was Weiser 12, Gooding 9.
The Wolverines maintained their impressive full-court pressure, preventing the Senators from advancing past Weiser’s free throw line for nearly two and a half minutes.
Gooding finally scored a basket with 6:18 left on the clock. The score was Weiser 17, Gooding 11.
Lerew answered with a 3-pointer from the top of the arc. After a few trips down the court, Kendall Rynearson hit another 3-pointer for Weiser.
The game remained intense with rapid ball movement and exceptional defensive pressure by Weiser.
With just a couple of minutes left in the first half, Lucy Hickey from Weiser’s team got hit hard when she tried to intercept a pass from Gooding’s player. Despite the setback, Hickey managed to recover a pass that Dolton had knocked loose a few plays later. Weiser’s team took advantage of the situation and scored a 3-pointer from Shirts, assisted by Lerew.
The fast-paced second quarter concluded with Weiser leading 31 to 17 as they went to the locker room.
During the third quarter, the Wolverines maintained their game plan and put tremendous defensive pressure on the Senators. They then capitalized on their offensive opportunities.
Rynearson played exceptionally well in the game, providing assists, and scoring on multiple occasions. She was able to score a 3-pointer within the first 1 minute and 30 seconds of the third quarter. Later, she hit another 3-pointer on a pass from Hailey Eames and also added 2 more points by scoring a basket.
With just 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Danica Lockett stole the ball and passed it up court to Lerew, extending Weiser’s lead to 32 points. The score at the end of the third quarter was Weiser 56, Gooding 24.
With Weiser leading by more than 30 points, the clock ran continuously throughout the fourth quarter.
Trista Buescher made good use of her time on the court during the quarter by making a couple of lay-ins off Weiser’s defensive steals.
The Wolverines maintained their lead throughout the game and ended their week of home games with a decisive win over Gooding, with a score of 61 to 29.
Weiser was led by Shirts who scored 17 points. Lerew and Rynearson both contributed 14 points, while Dolton and Buescher each had 7 points. Paisley Noyer scored 2 points.
The lady Wolverines hosted Nyssa on Tuesday, Dec. 12 and are hosting Payette on Thursday, Dec. 14th.
