Weiser gets down early in loss to Parma

Weiser’s Tom Falash Gymnasium was packed with Wolverine fans last Thursday to watch the Lady Wolverines take on the visiting Parma Panthers, but despite fan support, the Lady Wolverines had a difficult time with the Panthers, dropping the game 20-55.
From the beginning tip, it was evident that the speed of the contest was going to be a dizzying pace. The Panthers employed a full-court press from the very start and although the Wolverines have had great success thus far in the season with their press breaker, it was a different story against the Panthers, resulting in numerous turnovers and fast break opportunities for the Panthers and an 18-0 shutout for the first 7 minutes of the period.
The Wolverines finally broke the spell with a free throw from Marissa Moyle.
Trailing 1-22, the Wolverines continued to battle, but their shots simply would not fall. The Wolverines had 19 attempts, but only Tobie Noyer was able to record a score from the field with one basket.
There was frustration and fatigue evident on the part of the Lady Wolverines, but the Weiser girls never gave up and ramped up their defense to hold the Panthers to only 11-points in the second quarter, half of the points they scored in the first.

Unfortunately, the Panthers’ 11-points was still more than the Wolverines’ 3-points and left the Panthers with a commanding 33-4 lead at the halftime break.
The Wolverines have exhibited a trend of displaying their best play in the second half of their games. Early in the second half it appeared to be happening again with the Wolverines scoring first in the half with a quick bucket for Tobie Noyer in the paint, followed by a well-executed inbounds play and the inside shot for Maddy Erickson.
The Wolverine defense was working hard and held the Panthers scoreless in the period for over two minutes. However, Panther steals and limited shooting success for the Wolverines had them trailing 10-42 midway through the quarter.
A beautiful baseline shot from behind the arc by Noyer energized the Wolverines and the crowd alike but was countered by a Panther 3-pointer shortly thereafter and another basket in the paint, advancing the Panther lead 49-13 with only one quarter remaining.
There was never a moment in the contest that the Wolverines ever gave up.  However, the weary team simply could not execute an effective plan to shut down the Panthers, losing the game 55-20.
Maddy Erickson led the Wolverines with 9-points followed by Tobie Noyer with 7-points and Marissa Moyle with 4-points.
