Weiser falls to Nampa 53-43 in season opener

The Weiser Wolverines traveled to Nampa on Saturday to meet up with the Bulldogs in their nonconference season opener.
 Weiser kept the score close for much of the game, but the 4A Bulldogs had a 10-point lead at the final buzzer and took the win 53-43.
 Turnovers were costly for the Wolverines, who gave Nampa plenty of opportunities to score. Weiser turned over the ball 12 times to the Bulldogs, who recorded only one turnover in the contest.
 Neither team shot the ball especially well in the first game of the season, with Weiser going 17-for-46 in total fieldgoals. The Wolverines hit five three-pointers out of 13 attempts. At the free throw line, Weiser was perfect at 4-for-4.
 The Bulldogs made more three-pointers, hitting nine out of 19 attempted, or more than half of the shots from beyond the three-point line. Nampa went 19-for-49 on all two and three-point shots combined.
 Weiser pulled down 10 offensive and 10 defensive rebounds to Nampa’s eight offensive and 10 defensive rebounds.
 Senior Ande Jensen led the scoring for Weiser with 11 points, including four fieldgoals and two three-pointers. Nate Lattin contributed nine points. He hit three three-pointers and two two-point fieldgoals. Justin Estes was a perfect 3-for-3 on fieldgoals and 2-for-2 on free throws for a total of eight points.
 Rounding out the scoring for the Wolverines were Tim Reed with six points and three rebounds. Caleb Harris contributed four points and pulled down five rebounds. Angel Magana added three points. Tyler Pope grabbed five rebounds and had two points.
 Weiser was scheduled to play the Melba Mustangs at Melba on Tuesday night in another nonconference game.
 The Wolverines first home game will be against Ontario on Thursday at Tom Falash Gymnasium.
