Weiser drops game to McCall 3-1

The McCall-Donnelly Lady Vandals overtook the Weiser Wolverines in a soccer match Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Weiser.
The Weiser team was well worn from the previous day – a delayed match in Baker, Ore., in which the Wolverines brought home a 5-2 victory for varsity and 6-0 for JV.
The McCall game was the girls fourth game in a row.  Dominated by McCall’s offense into the first half, it took Weiser a bit of time to get a single attempt on goal.
Marissa Moyle offered a tremendous penalty kick, an inspiring header, and helped gain some momentum for the girls, but it was no match for the McCall offense.
Melissa Sandoval, a junior at WHS, was well worked as the Wolverine’s goalie, with McCall striking multiple times, getting the score 3-0 at the half.
The second portion started for the Weiser team in the same tone as the frustrating first half.  Moyle, again, would bring some enthusiasm to the Wolverine bench with a point scored by a penalty kick.  Shaylee Huggins was very aggressive on defense with several kick outs. Alex Bittinger and Andrea Bouvia are both unique players with presence in both offense and defense.
The game felt like it really started for the Lady Wolverines with about 15 minutes left. The girls were on and impressive. Makaela Ruiz was very active throughout. Also notable, the fancy feet of freshman Macy Maloney, some awesome clear-outs and kicking by Kendyll Spencer, and the offensive dynamic of Moyle, Rhianna Soliz, and Andrea Bouvia.
Despite more attempts on goal, a seemingly stronger offensive attitude, the ladies would end the day with a 3-1 loss.
