Weiser comes out strong in the second half

The Lady Wolverines travelled to the home of league competitors the Parma Panthers last week and hoped to expand on their recent league wins and exhibit their defensive skills and team play. Their plan was spoiled by a rough first half that was too difficult to overcome.
The Lady Wolverines began the first period of the match-up struggling to get off a shot, with only ten attempts throughout the quarter. Coupled with the minimal opportunities, the shots attempted simply would not fall for the Wolverines. Tobie Noyer was the only Weiser player to get on the scoreboard with two-points.  Unfortunately, the Lady Panthers were not suffering a similar scenario and added 12-points from the field and a pair of free throws to take a 14-2 lead over the Wolverines after one period.
Ivy Morris found her spot from beyond the arc and Jasi Yraguen added a basket from the field during the second quarter, but their five-points and a free throw apiece from Maddie Erickson and Noyer made no dent in the Panther lead.
The Panthers added another 11-points to their total in the quarter, leaving the Wolverines trailing 25-9 at the halftime break.
The Lady Wolverines came out in the second half a different team, outscoring the Panthers 16-9 and pulling within nine-points, 34-25, by the end of the third quarter.
Noyer was big in the period, shooting 75 percent from the field and 100 percent from the charity stripe for a total of eight-points.  The majority of the Wolverines also added to the third period surge with Elle Svedin, Yraguen, Erickson and Mattie Shirts all recording two-points apiece.
With the scoring deficit manageable, the Wolverines went to work to overtake the Panthers in the final quarter. Noyer had another big quarter with six more points. Svedin and Shirts had two-points apiece, as well, but despite outscoring the Panthers 10-8 in the quarter, it wasn’t enough to take the game and the Wolverines came up short, losing 42-35.
Tobie Noyer was instrumental in the game with 17-points, followed by Shirts, Svedin and Yraguen with four-points each.  Erickson and Morris added three-points apiece.
The JV squad of the Lady Wolverines won their game 32-20 and the Frosh/Soph team brought home the win, as well, but scores were unavailable.
