Weiser cheerleaders sweep district championship

Once again, Weiser cheerleaders proved that Weiser spirit and talent is among the best, earning their 12th straight district championship and making it a clean dirty dozen for the Wolverines.
The squad will head to state on Friday, March 20, at the Idaho Center in Nampa to defend their state championship title.
Weiser cheerleaders competed in all three events: pom routine, sideline cheer, show cheer. Parma and Fruitland also competed in the 3A division with Fruitland qualifying for state behind Weiser in pom and with Parma qualifying for state with the first place 3A co-ed show routine.
Weiser not only scored the highest in their division, but at the end of the day Weiser was one of the best cheer squads there with scores higher than not only the 4A District Champion Nampa, but higher than many of the 5A schools as well.
Coach Jennifer Weldon emphasized that routines like what Weiser is able to put together each year do not just happen every year without the commitment and work of the whole squad.
“This has been a fun group of girls to coach. They work well together, and they work really hard to keep improving to put their best performance on the floor every time,” Weldon said.
Weldon shared the girls feedback from the judges and direction well and she has seen them improve with each performance both on an individual level and as a whole squad.
On top of their commitment to being better on the mat with each competition, the girls work hard in the classroom as well, as the IHSAA has already announced that the Wolverines are once again state academic champions for the 3A division.
As they prepare for state, it will be all about continuing to work on transitions and sharpness of movements, sharpening the precision of the skills they have already shown on the mat.
Idaho cheer is a different sort of athletic competition for many reasons.
For one, the competition at the state level is very different from the competition at the district level, because at state there are coed squads that are able to have cheer as a PE class and therefore are able to practice during the day.
Sugar Salem and American Falls prove to be tough competition year after year and Marsh Valley and Filer have also made strong showings in the past.
This year, Weiser will compete in the morning session of the Idaho State Cheer  beginning at 8 a.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance through IHSAA.com for $10 or for general admission seating at the door for $8 for adults and $5 for students with activity card.
