Weiser boys played a tough Emmett team

On Friday, Dec. 2, the Weiser Boys travelled to Emmett to take on the Huskies.
Weiser entered the game with a 0-1 record after their opener loss to Melba. Emmett came in with an overtime win by 2 over the Homedale Trojans and a record of 1-0.
Weiser intentionally set up a tough preseason schedule to prepare the team for a similarly tough Snake River Valley Conference.
Emmett is a strong 4A school that has been developing their program over the past couple of years, setting themselves up to be a highly competitive basketball team.
When asked about the recap of the game, Weiser’s Coach Schultz said, “The Wolverines played a very athletic 4A team in Emmett. We may have lost by 14 – 42 to 56. But we got better throughout the game. We were led by Malakye Scott with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The team is working hard to find their identity as a team and took another step towards reaching their goals.”
The Wolverines had a slow start to the night. Where they were only able to put 4 points on the board in the first quarter. Emmet on the other hand had a solid period where they put 19 points on the board to give themselves a sizable cushion for the rest of the game.
Weiser ended the first with 4 points to Emmett’s 19.
Wolverine Tommy Johnson was the leading scorer of the second quarter where he dropped 3 buckets to score over half of Weiser’s second quarter points. Playing a tougher defense, Weiser was able to hold Emmett to only 6 points in the second reducing Emmett’s lead to 10 points. At the half it was Weiser 15, Emmett 25.
In the third quarter the Wolverines started sinking a few outside shots to help them stay in check with the Huskies. Weiser hit three 3 pointers in the third, Malakye Scott, Josh Mizar, and Carter Jensen each had one a piece.
The third period ended with Weiser down by 9, Weiser 29, Emmett 38.
Scott added two more 3’s in the fourth and Mizar had another one. Jensen contributed a bucket and two free throws to round out Weiser’s 13 point quarter.
Emmett was able to increase their lead in the fourth to finish the game with a 14 point win. The night ended with Weiser having 42 points and Emmett with 56.
This is the second loss for the Wolverines in the opening week. They look to capitalize on the learning experience and come out strong at the beginning of conference play which will start in January.
Wolverine scoring for the night: Scott with 12, Jensen 9, Mizar and Johnson with 8 a piece, 3 from Braden Phillips, and 2 from Kolin Cook.
Scores at the end of quarters:
Weiser 4 15 29 42
Emmett 19 25 38 56
The Wolverines traveled to Caldwell on Tuesday, Dec. 6. No score was available at the time of printing.
On Thursday, Dec. 8, they will be on the road again when they travel to Nampa to meet the Bulldogs.
