Former Weiser School District Superintendent Wade Wilson was named the new Superintendent for the New Plymouth School District during its Board of Trustee meeting held on Feb. 12.
Wilson will take over for Wil Overgaard, also a former superintendent of the WSD, who was named interim superintendent in New Plymouth last summer.
Wilson announced his retirement from the WSD in February 2023 and will start his new job in New Plymouth April 1.
Wilson served 33 years in the WSD, his first 11 as a math teacher at Weiser High School, along with coaching basketball and baseball. At the same time, he earned administrative credentials, becoming Pioneer School’s principal beginning in the 2001-02 school year, and holding that position for 17 years. In addition, he doubled as Weiser’s academic achievement director for three years, prior to being hired by the WSD Board of Trustees in 2019 to take over for then-retiring Wil Overgaard.
Wilson shared some thoughts about his long career with the Weiser Signal American.
“I have stayed in Weiser for a reason,” he said in February 2023. “Weiser has afforded me an amazing place to work and raise a family. The Weiser School District has a long history of doing what is right for kids, and our community has remained incredibly supportive.”
Wilson graduated from Orofino High School in 1985, according to an Argus Observer report, and follows in the footsteps of his father Skip Wilson, a long time educator and school administrator in Orofino and in the state of Washington.
Wilson is a 1990 graduate of the University of Idaho and picked up his Master’s Degree in Education Leadership from Northwest Nazarene in 2000. He added his Education Specialist degree from Boise State University in 2019. Wilson and his wife, Angi, have three daughters (Bailey, Lindsi, and Lacey) and two grandchildren.
