Weiser’s All-American Cheerleader participates in special celebration marking the 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbor

by Nicole Miller
Weiser High School senior, Alexandra Froshiesar was recently chosen as an All-American Cheerleader and through this program, she was given the opportunity to travel to Hawaii and participate in a special celebration on the 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbor “The Varsity Spirit Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade.”
The individuals invited to perform are part of a select group of cheerleaders and dancers chosen as All-Americans during Varsity Spirit summer camps across the country.
All-Americans are selected via tryout based on either superior cheerleading or dance skills at camps operated by Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), Universal Dance Association (UDA), National Cheerleaders Association (NCA), National Dance Alliance (NDA), United Spirit Association (USA) or Urban Cheerleading Experience (UCE).
Only the top 10 percent of the cheerleaders and dancers from Varsity Spirit camps earn the chance to march in a holiday parade of this caliber.
Froshiesar was chosen as an All-American Cheerleader at the UCA Cheerleading camp the Weiser squad attended this summer. Kiana Olvera and Britynn Seward were also chosen as All- American Cheerleaders.
Each cheer squad attending UCA camp can nominate squad members to compete for the honor of being named “UCA All American.’’ Becoming UCA All-American means cheerleaders demonstrated the appropriate skills of cheerleading with enthusiasm, sharp motions, dance, cheer, facial expression, and jumps. Participants are judged on a short dance routine, a cheer routine, and best jump.
Getting selected as All-American is an honor, but this year, the honor of All-American also came with an invitation to cheer during the 80th Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade.
Froshiesar shared that when she saw that she had the once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in such a special event honoring our country and our veterans, she and her mom knew they had to take the trip.
While in Hawaii, Froshiesar shared that she was able to meet amazing cheerleaders from all around the country – many of whom she feels are new life long friends.
The celebration began with a performance at the park for all the veterans and families. In order to be ready for the event, Froshiesar had to learn and practice a special routine for the performance.
Froshiesar shared that the feeling when she was able to see the faces of the veterans as they watched the performance of 600 cheerleaders was pure joy. During the opening ceremony, Froshiesar was also able to see over 100 Pearl Harbor Survivors and WWII veterans on stage.
Following this special performance, they were able to participate in the two mile parade. The official public event marking the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor featured over 100 entries. Froshiesar shared that the parade was long and tiring but all worth it. More information about the parade and a link to watch the whole parade is available at www.pearlharborparade.org.
“This meant a lot to me because I was there to perform for such a large part of history, and honor these men that had risked or given their lives for us on that day. It’s also my senior year so it was a great way to start capping off my years as a high school cheerleader,” Froshiesar said.
