Voters in Washington County will go to the polls next Tuesday to decide a number of political races and two ballot measures in the midterm election.
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at all voting locations in Weiser, at Midvale City Hall and the Washington County fairgrounds exhibit hall in Cambridge.
Voters need to show an acceptable form of identification to cast a ballot.
County residents can also register to vote on election day. Registering requires valid photo ID and proof of residency, such as a utility bill or bank statement.
Voters who requested absentee ballots must return them to the county clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Nov. 6 to be counted in the election.
The chairs for both the Washington County Republicans and Democrats were excited about their party’s candidates in the midterm election.
Linda Strain, chairwoman of the local Democrats, said this election is the first in the 45 years she has been voting that the Democrats have a full ticket at the state level.
Voter registration numbers are up, which could bode well for Democrats, she said. All the Democratic candidates at the state level are female.
“People truly are excited for this election and they have stepped up to get involved,” she said. “Turnout so far seems to exceed expectations and chances are Democrats will do very good this election.”
GOP county chairman John Jensen said if Republicans get out and vote the ticket, the GOP will do well across the state at the polls next Tuesday.
The number of registered voters in the state has historically heavily favored Republicans and that continues today.
“I think the candidates on the Republican side are pretty strong,” Jensen said.
A number of county offices are uncontested in the general election and those candidates will be declared winners.
They include candidate Lisa Collini for the District 1 position on the three-member Washington County commission.
Incumbent District 3 commissioner Kirk Chandler will be re-elected for another term.
Debbie Moxley is unopposed for the open position of county assessor. County clerk candidate Donna Atwood also faces no opposition.
Incumbent county treasurer Sabrina Young will be re-elected to office, and so will incumbent county coroner Bowe von Brethorst.
All of the state constitutional offices are up for election on Nov. 6.
