Tri-Valley Titans fall to Salmon River 44-14
The last home game for the Titans began by paying tribute to the team’s eight seniors, Larry Bodnar, Michael Carpenter, Jason Damon, Jayden Mink, Tayden Murray, Cody Nixon, Orion Southwick and Reed Thulander.
After honors were served the men lined up to receive the Salmon River kick-off. The Titan defense started off with a bang when Michael Carpenter forced a Savage fumble and it was recovered by Reed Thulander.
Unfortunately, the Titans were unable to capitalize on the turnover. First to mark the scoreboard were the Salmon Salvages with 6 points after a touchdown and failed two point conversion.
Striking back, the Titans spread the field and opened up a 25-yard touchdown run by Orion Southwick followed by a two-point conversion pass from Mink to Tyrel Barnett.
The Titans lead wouldn’t hold for long, however, before the Savages added 8 more points to the scoreboard to end the first quarter with a score of 14-8 for Salmon River.
The second quarter began with the Titans in the Salmon River red zone, just three yards from a touchdown, but the Savages defensive line held and took over on downs. Salmon River would tack on another touchdown and two point conversion in the second quarter, while the Titans did their best to contain them defensively and struggled offensively. The half arrived with a score of 22-8 in favor of the Savages.
The Savage attack continued in the third quarter with 14 additional points added to the scoreboard and a defensive match-up that kept the Titans scoreless. Early in the fourth quarter, the Savages bolted for their final scoring drive of the night to bring them to 44 points total.
With 4:48 left in the game, the Titans put together a scoring drive that ended in a 5-yard touchdown pass from Jayden Mink to Tyrel Barnett. The failed two point conversion attempt made the final score 44-14.
Leading the Titans in the defensive arena were Orion Southwick with 11 tackles, 2 for lost yardage; Michael Carpenter with 7 tackles and 1 forced fumble; Larry Bodnar with 6 tackles, 1 for loss; Tyrel Barnett with 6 tackles, 1 for loss, Jayden Mink with 5 tackles, and Cody Nixon with 4 tackles, 1 for loss, and 1 sack.
Coach Bob Johnson said, “We had our chances but we weren’t able to capitalize on them, particularly when we got inside their red zone. We also gave up some big plays that ended up being the difference in the game.”
The Titans final league game will be Friday, Oct. 26 in Cascade at 3 p.m.
