Titans football team drop Wildcats 26-20

The Tri-Valley Titans football team hosted 1A Div I Idaho City Friday, Sept. 17, pulling out a crucial 26-20 victory that puts the Titans, who play in 1A Div. II state classification, at 2-2 overall on the season.
“The boys really showed their emotion on the field,” said head coach Justin Mink. “We were down by 12, but kept their heads, showed up and did their jobs. They are really playing a lot better football.”
That emotion showed as the Titans began clawing back from a 12-0 deficit. They would close the gap, however, with a 40-yard touchdown pass from Zane Nichols to Charlie Gay.
Not long after, Gage Warren picked up a fumble for a 40-yard touchdown run.
Tri-Valley played tough defense, holding the Wildcats scoreless on several drives, with Clayton Harper intercepting a pass, which he returned for a 25-yard touchdown.
The Titans were able to stay on top and take the 26-20 victory, putting the team at 2-2 overall on the season.
Mink said he was happy with his quarterback Zane Nichols.
“He had a nice touchdown pass up the middle to Clayton Harper,” he said. The defense was able to get three good stops; one was really crucial that was by inches, then they ended up having to punt, but our defense really played well.”
Josh Martinez had a fumble recovery of his own and Luke McHenery was a stopping force at linebacker, Mink added.
“We are really proud of the boys,” he said. “That was a big victory and morale booster for us going into league play this week. We are going to have to rise to the occasion, but our young kids are developing and coming along. We need a great week of practice this week and should be ready.”
Tri-Valley travels to Council Friday, Sept. 24 to face the Lumberjacks in division action.
