Thanksgiving trap shoot to be held this Saturday at noon

The Indian Valley Trap Club is hosting its annual Thanksgiving trap shoot on Saturday, Nov. 21. Prizes are offered to winners of each shoot, ranging from turkeys to hams to pies.
Guests shoot mostly traps, and the age range can be anywhere from young children to older and long-term trap club members, said President Steve Bumgarner. He said trap shooting is a sport that appears to interest older generations more and when younger individuals choose to attend, it is a welcome change.
“It’ll be a fun shoot,” said Bumgarner. “We don’t have an age limit. People are welcome to bring their kids, and they can learn to shoot.”
The Thanksgiving trap shoot averages approximately 20 people each year, and includes several different options including buddy shoots. After each shoot, a winner will be announced and are then able to draw a prize at random out of a bag. There is one prize for every five people.
“We try to do the best we can,” said Bumgarner.
The shoot offers a fundraising opportunity for the Trap Club, with a usually decent turnout of guests every year, said Bumgarner. While the concern for the spread of COVID-19 is present, social distancing is difficult during a trap shoot. Guests regularly are close to each other and while safety is encouraged, individuals are the ones with the responsibility to distance, he said. Sanitizers will be made available, and guests are encouraged to keep in mind safety regulations while attending the trap shoot.
“The concern is there, but people are going to do what they are going to do,” said Bumgarner.
The shoot is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and will end whenever guests choose to finish, he said. Attendance is priced at $5 per shoot, and guests are asked to bring shells.
For a special event trap shoot such as this, guests are not required to be paying members of the trap club. However, during regular shoots, membership is required. Another trap shoot will be scheduled for the Saturday before Christmas.
