Tennis team takes close win over Caldwell at home

The Weiser Wolverine tennis team hosted their first match of the season against Caldwell High School on ??.
 It was a cool and windy day and not ideal for tennis but Weiser prevailed and won the close match, six to five.
 Weiser’s doubles and mixed doubles teams played strong taking all but one match for the day.  
 The girl’s doubles team of Denica McClellan and Alexandra Froshiesar defeated Caldwell’s Dayna Buitron and Stephanie Victoriano 6-2, 6-3.
 The number one boy’s doubles match went three sets. Ethan Davis and Charlie Woods defeated Rylund Sherman and Jonathan Marostica 7-6, 4-6, 7-3.
 In mixed doubles action both Weiser teams came out victorious. The number one team of Huntyr McClellan and Emma Tolman defeated Oscar Vega and Mya Pena, 6-4, 6-4. Weiser’s number two doubles team did quick work on their opponents taking the match without losing a game. Brylee Williams and Kendall Rynearson defeated Nerio Marroquin and Isabella Prior 6-0, 6-0.
 Weiser’s number two girls’ doubles team took their match to three sets. Britynn Seward and Bailey Coleman lost their first set 4-6, came back to take the second 6-2 and lost the third 5-7.
 In singles action Kristy Bake playing in the number one spot beat Emilee Goettig 6-2, 6-3. Caldwell took the number two and number three girls’ singles matches. Sadie Oesch playing in the number two spot for Caldwell defeated Libbie Rynearson, 0-6, 1-6. The number three girls’ singles match went to Caldwell with Amia Stults defeating McKenna Manser, 1-6, 0-6.
 In boys singles Eli Woods, playing in the number three singles match added a win for Weiser defeating Caldwell’s Jayden Mitchell, 7-6, 10-8.  
 Weiser’s number one and number two singles matches went three close sets. Caldwell’s River Rowan defeated Weiser’s Moses Hernandez, 7-6, 6-7 and 6-7 and Johnny Stuart playing in the number two position for Weiser was defeated by Robert Wrought of Caldwell, 7-6, 6-7, 6-7.
 “We’re so grateful just to be outside and playing we would’ve been out there in just about any weather,” said head coach Angie Soulen. “The kids were excited and nervous and everyone struggled with serving as the wind moved their toss every which way. Overall the coaches were happy with the efforts from all the players.  Practice is important but playing matches really exposes areas that need improvement,” said Soulen  
 Weiser’s next match will be a conference match against Payette on April 6.
