Storm brings fires to Washington County

A fire on the Oregon side on Highway 201 heading towards Huntington started in dry brush. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Weiser Area Rural Fire Department was dispatched to the fire at around 5:15 p.m. with the first truck sent to protect structures. The fire consumed over 100 acres of BLM land and some private land between Highway 201 and I-84. The rural fire department sent out four vehicles including a water tender truck and command vehicle. Nine firefighters worked with the Vale BLM. A smaller fire above Mann Creek reservoir and another one between Brownlee reservoir and Cambridge also started Monday night. The Mann Creek fire was contained and extinguished quickly. The Brownlee fire is still burning and forest services are working with local fire departments to contain the blaze.
