Second-graders shine in Christmas show

The second-graders from Pioneer Elementary School in Weiser have been working on their Christmas program, “The Five Grumpy Elves,” since September.
“The kids were extremely fun and full of energy!” said director Tori Thomas. “I just knew this play would be the perfect fit for them!”
The kids entered the stage to “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Once settled in their places a group of elves came out and began discussing all the work they needed to do for Christmas. Five of the elves begin to complain about the large demand for presents from ungrateful kids. The students sing “Jingle Bells” as the elves get to work on the toys.
The elves gathered together to inspect some of the toys they have finished and notice that many of them are not quite right. There is a frobbit; part rabbit part frog, a three-eyed bear, a train with square wheels and a Jack in the box that moos instead of playing music. The elves decide the toys are good enough and are going to leave them as is. The toys come to life to give their opinion on how they were made, leading into the song “Christmas Don’t be Late.”
The elves tell the toys that kids have forgotten what the true meaning of Christmas is. The toys point out that it is the elves that have forgotten and everyone sings “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” The elves are still not quite getting it and are thinking about quitting to go work for Keebler.
The students sing “We Need a Little Christmas,” the elves finally figure it out and begin fixing all the toys. Everyone then sings, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” Santa shows up and tells about keeping Christmas in your heart and they sing “Thankful Heart.”
Santa loads all the fixed toys into his sleigh and heads out with a Ho Ho Ho as all the elves wave him off. They finish the program by singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
