ROSE Advocates will have a ‘no dinner raffle’

The ROSE Advocates fall fundraiser is designed differently this year, said executive director Dolores Larsen.
A nonprofit dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence, ROSE Advocates in Weiser annually hosts a fundraiser dinner on the first Monday of October, bringing in October as Domestic Violence Awareness month. However due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization has redesigned their format this year. Rather than a sit-down dinner, the organization is running a “No Dinner Tonight” raffle.
“We usually have about 310, 315 people attend at the Vendome,” said Larsen. “We couldn’t bring that many people together.”
Fundraising access is an important element to the organization, said Larsen. Funds raised help provide necessities for victims that confide in ROSE Advocates. Federal grants awarded must be monetarily matched by the organization.
Money raised by fundraisers can be dedicated to meeting the match as well as pay for doctor’s visits and other needs.
The “No Dinner Tonight” raffle is a single winner raffle worth more than $500. The drawing is scheduled for November 13. Each ticket is $25 and there is no limit on the amount of tickets purchased. A small celebration during the drawing is in the works as well.
“There’s a lot of stress and a lot of sadness,” said Larsen. “So we thought, ‘let’s just come up with something that might be a little bit of fun, let’s come up with a catchy name, and let’s just go for it.’”
In February, the organization hosts an annual soup bowl fundraiser and was cut short when the pandemic began. In August, an annual golf tournament is held that was also canceled.
While the organization hosts several fundraisers throughout the year, the annual October dinner is the largest, said Larsen. The loss for ROSE Advocates is immense in 2020, however the group remains hopeful for any funds raised.
“It’s been a big loss to us this year,” said Larsen. “We just keep moving forward, and anything we do to raise money for our victims is worth the time and the effort.”
The organization is hoping to host a New Year’s Eve dance and is making plans to host their soup bowl for at least Washington and Payette County. The funds raised will be partially dedicated to the organization’s children’s program while the majority will be dedicated to emergency needs for victims that are not normally covered by other funds.
“Anything that we are able to raise through this fundraiser benefits our clients, and so it’s worth it,” said Larsen.
Tickets can be purchased in the ROSE Advocates office. Tickets can also be purchased by credit or debit card or placed on reserve over phone. Checks can be mailed, and information will be placed on the appropriate number of tickets and placed in the drawing. Rose Advocates can be reached at 208-414-1231, at 27 West Commercial St., Weiser and checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 527, Weiser, Idaho 83672.
