This is the 13th year that MTE Communications in Weiser has teamed up with ROSE Advocates to make sure financially struggling families and individuals in the community enjoy a brighter Christmas.
ROSE Advocates supplies the tags that are hanging on the giving tree located at the MTE office. Each tag contains some information about the individual, such as the age and gender, and what they are in need of right now.
The tags represent families and individuals in the community that the nonprofit organization has come in contact with through its work with victims of domestic violence or sexual abuse. The ages range from infant to adults.
Most requests are simple and practical items like socks, slippers or pajamas, gloves, dishes, makeup or bath stuff. The gifts need to be returned to the MTE Communications office by Dec. 14 so they can be distributed by Christmas. They can be wrapped or unwrapped.
MTE employees said they have wrapping paper and can assist in wrapping gifts. Make sure the tag that came off the tree is returned with the gift.
If someone would like to help with a cash donation, that will work as well and MTE employees will gladly do the shopping.
ROSE Advocates will pick up the gifts and make sure they are distributed in the community. Gifts of food are also accepted and will be distributed in the community. Food items that could help make a Christmas dinner for a local family are always appreciated.
The giving tree has been up in the MTE Communications office since Nov. 26. There were about 40 tags in need of gifts when the tree first went up, but that number will go down as  generous members of the community take them and go shopping.
MTE employee Susan Samson said local residents are really good about supporting the giving tree and ROSE Advocates, a nonprofit that assists victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. In past years, a local sorority has taken a bunch of tags and bought gifts.
“Most of the time all the tags are gone once people know they are here. They go pretty quick,” she said.
Officials with ROSE Advocates in Weiser said previously that the giving tree partnership with MTE Communications for the past 13 years has been a great benefit for people in the community during what can be a hard time of the year.
“The Christmas gift donations they (MTE) have collected have and continue to bring smiles and joy to families, especially children who have suffered from abuse. We are so grateful for MTE. The size of our community’s heart is huge,” Dolores Larsen said.
ROSE Advocates is a confidential network offering resources to abused children and adults since 1988 and has offices in Adams, Boise, Gem, Payette, Valley and Washington counties.
