Republican women from around the state meet for fall session

Republican women from around Idaho gathered in Twin Falls for the annual fall meeting of the Idaho Federation of Republican Women (IFRW) on Oct. 11-12.
Karen Wright from Weiser attended this year’s event. She said she was honored to be able to go to the meeting. She joined the local Republican women’s group because it seemed like a great avenue to be more active in the party.
The two-day event brought together approximately 40 women and other representatives of the Idaho Republican Party. It included valuable training sessions on key communication tools to help lead the way to victories in 2020, followed by a fundraising reception and dinner where they were honored to have special guest speaker First Lady Teresa Little.
Wright said that the two full days gave her the opportunity to meet like minded people, and learn techniques to promote the party and the support of the president.
A highlight of the meeting was when the IFRW was able to present Idaho GOP Executive Director Frank Terraferma with a $500 check to help with resources to ensure GOP victories across the state of Idaho in 2020.
During the event she was not only able to meet Idaho’s first lady, but also several current and past legislators. She was able to have face to face time with the current attorney general Lawrence Wasden, state treasurer Julie Ellsworth and the state superintendent of schools Sherri Ibarra.
“It’s really important to me to have the opportunity to talk to our politicians, and to have that face to face time to ask questions and to know that they hear you,” Wright said.
The event was a great way for Wright to make new friendships and new connections for not only herself but for the local Washington County Federation of Republican Women group to continue to help get the Weiser community more involved with politics. The group hopes to grow these connections and be able to have the opportunity to bring more representatives to the Weiser area similar to the recent visit from Idaho’s lieutenant governor.
IFRW President Janalee Woolf remarked, “The IFRW fall meeting was a great chance for women from around the state to meet and share ideas.  The collaboration with each other along with the training we received will help us strengthen our clubs and Republican values in our communities. The friendships that evolve will keep us connected as we work together to elect our Republican candidates.”
The Weiser group of Republican women is new, but growing and passionate about being involved in the Republican Party. The objectives align with the national organization that began in 1938:  inform the public through political and legislative education, training and activity; recruit, train and elect Republican candidates; protect the integrity of our electoral process; promote the principles, objectives and policies of the Republican Party; unite and facilitate cooperation among the state and club organizations; and, increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government.
Locally, the group feeds into the state, and to the national levels. The club is kept informed of issues of which the community needs to be aware and can impact local communities.
Most importantly in Washington County, the group is organizing projects to empower the area with protecting rights and being informed of important issues going on in the state.
“We also will work hard to re-elect our Republican candidates back to office next year, and support the efforts to re-elect President Trump for another term,” local GOP official Margaret Jensen said.
This last year the Washington County Federation of Republican Women have invited state elected officials to meetings to talk about what is going on in Legislature. They hosted Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin when she visited Weiser and Payette to visit with students about alternatives to college in the trades, hosted the attorney general’s wife and Ada County Federation of Republican Women as well as VP of the Idaho Federation Republican Women Tracey Wasden for an afternoon to talk about what she does and her role in politics.
This group is also preparing to give every high school senior in Washington County a pocket sized constitution as well as holding various fundraisers to be able to offer a scholarship to a high school student wanting to further their career in Republican politics.
“We are really excited to be building this club. I am overwhelmed with the interest from our local Republican women in what they can do to help.  We are so much more than just helping our candidates. It is helping our community as well.  We are service minded ladies,” Jensen said.
The meetings are the third Thursday of the month and beginning next year, the group will alternate between lunch and evening meetings to allow more flexibility for people to attend. Next meeting is Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. at Idaho Pizza.
