Reed steps down as WHS varsity girls basketball coach
After 11 years as the head varsity girls basketball coach at Weiser High School, and more than 20 years as a coach in the girls basketball program, Nick Reed is stepping down from his position, the school said in a news release.
A 1993 graduate of Weiser High School, Reed began his coaching career as an assistant at Weiser in 1996 under Tim Erhard. He had two separate stints leading sub-varsity programs before taking over the girls basketball program after Erhard’s retirement from coaching in advance of the 2008-2009 basketball season.
“We are so thankful for coach Reed’s time, efforts, and dedication to our girls basketball players over the past two decades,” WHS athletic director Tyler Grant said.
“His passion and desire to succeed, as well as his devotion to his program, our school, and our community exemplify some of the many characteristics that make Weiser such a great place to live. He will be sorely missed in our athletic department.”
Reed steps away with a varsity record of 135-125 at Weiser. His 11 seasons include three district championships, five state tournament appearances, and a third place finish in 2010. The Lady Wolverines were just one win away from going to state this year after a nice run at the SRV District tournament.
An announcement for a ceremony at a home athletic event to recognize Reed for his service and accomplishments as coach will be made at a later date.
