The Weiser museum will host its 4th annual quilt show this coming weekend on Oct. 12-13.
As a long time admirer of quilts, coordinator Jeri Kleppin knew Weiser had many great quilters, both amateur and professional, so she saw an opportunity for the museum to be of service to the community by showcasing those talents. With the help of many area quilters, the tradition began in 2015.
Each year the quilt show has been different.  Some years there have been more quilts than visitors and vice versa. In 2017, the quilt show received many out-of-town guests who came to Weiser specifically for the quilt show.
This year, in response to that, the committee reached out to quilt and fabric shops in the larger area, so the hope is to see more visitors, as well as more quilts. The goal is to showcase 100 quilts.
The museum displays all quilts that are brought in. Quilters should bring their quilts to the museum Wednesday or Thursday, Oct. 10-11, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. A registration/entry form will be duplicated for the quilter as a claim ticket for pickup on Saturday after 5 p.m. Registration/entry forms are available online at Facebook, the Weiser museum or at the Weiser library or JudyAnn’s Quilt Shop.
The $3 donation for viewing the quilts supports the quilt show itself paying for the advertising in the region and locally. It also gives another way to showcase the beautiful woodwork, antique furnishings and displays of the Snake River Heritage Center which create a wonderful “home” for the museum quilt show.
The museum boasts a unique setting for the handmade beauties. Also, the museum has several vintage quilts which are part of our collection. Tours beyond the first floor will be available on a limited basis on Friday and Saturday during show times of 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Each visitor has the opportunity to choose their favorite quilt of the show. This year  two awards will be given  to “favorites” which will earn the winners each a museum quilt show shopping bag as well as a museum membership.
“Each year new, different, amazing and awe-inspiring works of art are brought to the show by the humblest quilters. Of course, many quilters give their creations as gifts, so they ask to “borrow” them back for the show. Quilters usually have more than one project in the works at the same time, while always looking for new ideas. The museum quilt show is the place to appreciate the art of quilting and see new or different ideas,” Kleppin said.
