Man arrested for allegedly pointing gun at individual

The lawyer for a Cambridge resident accused of pointing a gun at another individual during an argument was granted a continuance to reschedule the preliminary hearing for January.
Washington County prosecutors have charged Douglas Newbold with felony aggravated assault related to an incident that occurred on the evening of Nov. 10 at a bar in Cambridge.
A deputy with the Washington County sheriff’s office arrested Newbold on Nov. 15 at the sheriff’s office in Weiser after requesting that he come to the office to provide a statement about the alleged incident.
Newbold, 69, was advised that there was an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest and placed in handcuffs. In addition to the warrant, there was a no-contact order barring Newbold from any contact with the alleged victim.
According to court documents, a deputy was disptached to the bar in Cambridge on Sunday, Nov. 11, after an individual reported a man who he knew had pulled a handgun on him the night before and pointed it at his head.
The two had been arguing outside the backdoor of the bar. Newbold allegedly pulled the handgun out of his waist area. Both men had been drinking, court documents state.
The deputy was able to review a videotape from the bar that showed the two men arguing. It also allegedly shows Newbold pulling out the handgun and “racking” a round into the chamber.
Newbold’s bond was reduced to $5,000 and he was able to post it.
He was scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Washington County Magistrate Court on Nov. 30. Judge David Eames allowed a continuance to Jan. 8, 2019.
