Library is alive and well and books can be checked out via online

The Weiser Public Library is open and has a new look for checking out books.
The library’s browsing option has been moved completely to their online catalog for the time being, said library director Pat Hamilton. This current format was decided as a way to keep all the library staff as well as its patrons healthy. The online catalog has been available for some time, and all are invited to browse the selections.
“This is the safest way for everybody,” said Hamilton. “The browsing is still available, it’s just different.”
Books can be reserved online by individuals with library cards. Reservations are made online and are sent directly to clerks, who are then able to find the books requested and prepare for same day pick-up. Clerks can also be contacted to search for specific books or to help patrons.
“Our [clerks] are so good, they know these people and they know their books,” said Hamilton. “They’re really good.”
Patrons have already utilized the browsing option, and every month it continues to grow, said Hamilton. The library has also recently received a grant to enlarge the area of their hotspots and will be installed this week.
Free library WiFi will be available within 100 yards of the building with the password “weiserlib.”
A meeting room has been made available for reservation, with equipment prepared for virtual meetings. Patrons may call the library during open hours to reserve the room.
A letter was written by Hamilton to further explain the library’s temporary situation.
“The Weiser Public Library is alive and well,” said Hamilton. “We are doing a few things a bit differently to keep all of the library staff healthy. The reality being, if one of the library clerks tests positive for the virus there will be no one to run the library as we will all be in quarantine.”
Hamilton asks patrons to remain positive through this change and transition, as the library is still available. She said she is thankful to Weiser for their patience and their patronage.
“For the time being, this is the way its going to be and we thank you for using the library,” said Hamilton. “I would like to thank you for your patience and support during these unusual times and hopefully we will be back to ‘normal’ soon.”
The Weiser Public Library can be reached at 208-549-1243 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the online catalog can be accessed at https://weiser.biblionix.com/catalog/.
