Lady Wolverines win big on senior night

The Lady Wolverines hosted the Homedale Trojans on Jan. 27 for senior night. Four senior Wolverines were honored, Rhianna Soliz, Madelyn Erickson, Jenifer Juarez, and Lindsey McConnell.
Earlier in the season, Weiser defeated Homedale 56 to 24.
Weiser won the tip off with Erickson tapping the ball to Tobie Noyer who took it down for a quick lay-in.
Homedale answered with a nice 17-foot jump shot. This was the last time the game was tied.
Weiser’s Juarez was here to play on her senior night and making her first bucket a minute into the game.
The Wolverines playing tough with a full court press did not allow the Trojans a chance to get into their offense.
Weiser scored almost every time they got a defensive stop. With 1:26 it was Weiser 21, Homedale 6.
The Trojans were then able to capitalize on defensive miscues by the Wolverines on two consecutive trips to their side of the court, scoring both times with easy lay-ins.
Wolverine Ivy Morris answered by sinking a three-pointer near the end of the first. The quarter ended Weiser 26, Homedale 11.
In the second quarter, it was all Weiser. The Trojans worked hard but were still unable to get much past Weiser’s defense.
Noyer opened the second with a nice jump shot beyond the arc for a three-pointer.
After a defensive stop, Weiser’s Juarez had a nice turn-around jumper at the free throw line for two points on an assist from Soliz.
Next trip Erickson stole the ball, passed it up to Soliz who made a heavily contested lay-in.
Homedale was able to add a couple of points, Weiser 35, Homedale 17.
Erickson who has had a solid senior season, continued her strong defense and quick scoring. With a steal, Erickson added two more points for Weiser.
With 3:30 left Noyer made it a 23-point game with a jump shot at the wing.
Erickson always working hard and fighting for rebounds was able to score for Weiser on three consecutive trips down the court.
Wolverine Elle Svedin scored when Noyer passed her the ball on the baseline where she sunk the jump shot. Weiser ended the half with 60 points to Homedale’s 23.
Homedale struck first in the third. Weiser’s Noyer quickly responded with a strong offensive rebound and put back.
The scoring for the Wolverines was a little more sporadic in the third, but they never allowed the Trojans to get back in the game.
At the end of the third quarter, at the half-court line, Soliz swatted the ball on defense, chased it down and dove to save it from going out of bounds under Weiser’s basket. As the ball skipped past two Trojans, Weiser’s Macy Maloney picked it up and made a quick shot for two points.
At the end of third it was Weiser 73, Homedale 29.
With a running clock in the fourth, the game finished quickly.
During the fourth quarter the Wolverines were able to add 15 points to Weiser’s total. The game ended in a Weiser win with 88 points and Homedale 35.
It was a team effort with multiple Wolverines scoring. Erickson was high scorer with 29 points, Noyer 17, Juarez 13, Morris 12, Svedin 5, Soliz 4, Maloney 4, Mattie Shirts 2, Jasi Yraguen 2.
