Lady Wolverines open hoops season at Caldwell

The Lady Wolverines traveled to the home of the 4A Caldwell Cougars last week for their first game of the season, but were unable to get the win with shooting struggles and dropped the game 47-25 to the Cougars.
The Wolverines struggled to find their shooting groove in the first quarter, but still managed to outscore the Cougars 7-5 with a three-point bucket from Madison Phillips and a basket apiece by both Abbey Shirts and Andrea Bouvia.
However, the Cougars stepped up their play in the second quarter, holding the Wolverines to a mere 3-points from a field goal by Maddie Erickson and a Bouvia free throw and overtook the lead 17-10 at the half.
The Wolverine defense struggled to handle the Cougar shooters in the third quarter, and allowed 16-points from the field and 4 from behind the charity stripe.
Meanwhile the Wolverine offense wasn’t faring much better despite 5-points by Marissa Moyle, two from Erickson and a free throw from Shirts.
Trailing 37-18, the Wolverines were up against a wall, but the Weiser ladies never gave up and even though they came up short, 47-25, Phillips and Macy Moore each canned a shot apiece from behind the arc and Lundberg found her mark with a free throw.
Madison Phillips led the Wolverines with 6 points, followed by Marissa Moyle with 5 points and 4 rebounds.  Maddie Erickson added 4 points and 6 rebounds, while Andrea Bouvia, Abbey Shirts and Macy Moore had 3-points each, and Sara Lundberg had 1 point.
