Lady Wolverines kick off season against Emmett

The Lady Wolverines kicked off their 2021 season with a road game against non-league, 4A competitors the Emmett Huskies.
The Lady Wolverines started strong taking the lead 1-0 in the first inning with a ground out RBI from Macy Maloney, bringing Ivy Morris across the plate, while the Wolverine defense left a pair of Huskies stranded on base and scoreless after one inning.
The Wolverines added to their lead in the second inning with four hits and runs from Grace Swank and Kali Branstetter.  The Huskies scored one run of their own to get on the board, but the Wolverines headed into their third inning at-bat with a 3-1 lead.
With two immediate outs for the Wolverines, a hit by Tobie Noyer, started things off for the Wolverines in the top of the third inning. A deep shot to left field by G. Swank brought Noyer in, and a hit to right field by Branstetter scored Swank, giving the Wolverines a 5-1 advantage.  However, a trio of runs for the Huskies, closed the gap to only a one-run Wolverine lead after three innings.
The Wolverines added two runs in the fourth inning from Cordes and Lockett, but the Huskies countered with two runs of their own, but the Wolverines pulled ahead in the fifth inning with runs by Branstetter, Olsen and Cordes, while the Huskies only managed one hitter on base before their at-bat was concluded by a pair of strikeouts and a ground out from the Wolverine defense.
Leading 10-6, the Wolverines had played a good game through 5½ innings, but the wheels fell off the Wolverine bus in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Huskies dominating the office and adding 10-runs to their credit and taking the game 16-10 over the Wolverines.
The Lady Wolverines had 12 hits for the day and Branstetter was three for three with her bat.
