Lady Wolverines fall to conference rival Parma

It was another tough one for the Lady Wolverines in their road match-up against the No. 1 ranked team in the Snake River Valley (SRV) conference on Jan. 21.
 The Lady Wolverines dropped the league game to the Parma Panthers 69-28.
 The fast pace and hot shooting hand of the Panthers, coupled with the absence of the Wolverine leading scorer Maddy Erickson, proved to be too much for the Lady Wolverines from the very start.  
 The Panthers were on the mark from both inside and beyond the arc, shooting 50 percent from the field for 25 points. Meanwhile, turnovers and the Panther defense were a problem for the Wolverines with only one Wolverine finding success and getting on the scoreboard during the first quarter. Mattie Shirts shot 100 percent from both the field and the line with four baskets and one free throw.
 Trailing 25-9, the Wolverines continued to battle, but were only able to add to their tally with a basket apiece from Andrea Bouvia and Shirts. Marissa Moyle added a basket and a pair of free throws, but the Panthers kept adding to their lead with 16 points to the Wolverines’ 8.
 Turnovers and defensive troubles for the Wolverines persisted into the second half allowing the Panthers numerous scoring opportunities and 14 points from the field. They also had 100 percent from the line for 4 points. Shirts continued to aid the cause with 6 additional points and Jenifer Juarez had 2 points.
 Trailing 59-25 to begin the final period, the Wolverines held the Panthers to only 10 points, the lowest scoring quarter of the game, but unfortunately the Panthers allowed only five shooting attempts to the Wolverines, with the only success coming from Moyle with 2 points. Bouvia added a free throw during the period and the Wolverines finished the game with the loss 28-69
 Mattie Shirts led the Wolverines with 17 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Marissa Moyle with 6 points and 3 rebounds.  Andrea Bouvia and Jenifer Juarez had 3 points and 2 points, respectively.
