It’s been another great year at Weiser museum

It has been another great year for the Snake River Heritage Center and Museum. We are continuing to see changes and improvements. The focus is now on the third floor as rooms are being readied for displays. This process includes new electrical wiring, wall repair and replacement, paint, etc.
After years of being boarded up and dark, the third floor hall window has been replaced with a new egress window. What a joy to see the light!
Another area we are working on is the continuing update of the auditorium. The auditorium is getting lots of use and needs new lighting, window coverings, and a better sound system.
Of course, the limiting factor to how soon things are accomplished seems always to be money. Grants are being applied for, but that is a slow and iffy process. Considering the museum’s limited budget, much is being accomplished, and the thanks for that goes to our great staff of volunteers and board members.
Speaking of the auditorium, the Weiser Youth Symphony’s spring concert was fantastic. If you have never attended one of the concerts you are missing out.
Always out in the forefront of needs for the museum is an elevator. It is disheartening when we see those who would love to tour our museum, use the ballroom, or attend an activity in the auditorium turned away because of the steps and stairways.
Please keep Snake River Heritage Center in mind when making yearly donations. There is also another way you can help that will cost you nothing extra.
Please consider using Amazon Smile and mark SRHC as the charitable organization of your choice. It will add nothing to your cost, but will benefit the museum greatly. Please pass this on to your friends and neighbors.
This past year we reluctantly accepted the resignation of one of our long-time board members, Pat Womack. We will miss her service and dedication.
On a happier note, we have two new board members. Denise Rasmussen, whose primary focus will be scheduling the use of the auditorium, ballroom, and alumni tea room.
Our other new board member is Kaitlyn Higgins, who will be keeping track of the museum store inventory, among other projects. I wish to welcome them both. If you are interested in helping at the museum, please contact any one of the board members.
I want to encourage you to visit. We have one of the best museums in the area. We do not charge admission (though we gladly accept donations), we give personal tours, and we’re always friendly. Bring your families and friends. The museum is open Fridays and Saturdays during the summer months, all week long during Fiddle Week, and we’ll give special tours almost any time.
Wes Higgins is the president of the Snake River Heritage Center board of directors.
