Initiative seeks open primaries in Idaho

Signature gathering on an Idaho ballot initiative to open the state’s closed primary elections began locally last week. The bi-partisan proposal offers voters to pick one candidate in each primary contest, regardless of party affiliation, with the top four in each race moving to the general election. The general election would change to ranked choice voting, with an instant run-off feature. If successful, voters will see the question on the 2024 election ballot.
