Hometown Dealerships Community Benefit is food, fun, golf and more for a good cause

The 30th annual Hometown Dealerships Community Benefit this weekend promises to be the biggest ever, and all of the proceeds go to a great cause.
This year’s event is a milestone for Steve Dominguez, who owns the Hometown car dealerships in Weiser, Payette and Ontario. It has been three decades since he held the first benefit at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Weiser. The event raised $5,000 to buy an infant incubator for Weiser Memorial Hospital.
It has grown since then to become the biggest fundraiser in the west end of the Treasure Valley. Over the past 30 years, the Hometown Dealerships Community Benefit has given more than $700,000 to charities and organizations in the communities where Dominguez has car dealerships, which includes Weiser, Payette and Ontario.
“It’s something we have enjoyed doing, giving back to the community,” Dominguez said.
The community benefit is a two-day event that starts on Saturday with the Taste of the Treasure Valley Benefit Auction. There will be 14 restaurants donating delicious food items to sample. In addition to the food, there will be wine and beer to sample, along with other beverages. The night continues with an auction of some fabulous items and all proceeds go to charities.
The food, fun and entertainment starts at 6 p.m. at the red barn at the Malheur County Fairgrounds in Ontario. It only costs $10 to attend and the benefit is open to the public. As of last week, there were 27 VIP tables sold. That is five more tables than last year and the number could go higher by this Saturday.
The night also features a special concert by recording artist and hit songwriter Steve Eaton, who calls Idaho home. Eaton is a winner of the Governor’s Award for artistic contribution. He has recorded songs for Capitol Records and RCA Records as well as written songs for Art Garfunkel, the Carpenters, the Righteous Brothers, Glen Campbell, Anne Murray and others.
On Sunday, the community benefit continues with a golf scramble starting at 10 a.m. at Scotch Pines Golf Course in Payette. Golfers get goodie bags, lunch, refreshments and prizes. The cost is $75 per player or $300 per team.
Dominguez said last week that there were 40 teams signed up, which is the most ever for the benefit scramble. Hit a hole-in-one and drive home in a new 2019 Toyota Rav 4, courtesy of Steve’s Hometown Toyota in Ontario.
The community benefit hosted by Steve’s Hometown Dealerships supports local charities and organizations, such as Help Them to Hope, Joe Malay’s Ho Ho Express, the Elks holiday food basket program, the Next Chapter Food Pantry and many more families in need. Last year’s event raised $60,000 for local charities in food, toys, clothing, bikes and cash.
