Holocaust survivor to bring a powerful message to Weiser

The “Bring Marion to Weiser” committee is hard at work finalizing plans for the arrival of Marion Blumenthal Lazan.
Lazan is a Holocaust survivor and is going to be sharing her experiences of the Holocaust in two presentations. The presentations will be on Monday, April 1.
The first presentation will be for the high school students, along with students from surrounding area schools during the school day. Then in the evening, at 7 p.m., Lazan will do a free community event at the high school.
“Marion’s presentation is not just about the bad things that happened during the time, but of overcoming, and rising above hardships,” Weiser High School teacher Michelle Chavez said. “It is a very uplifting and powerful message.”
Lazan will also be available after the event to sign copies of her book, “Four Perfect Pebbles.”
Lazan’s book is now available for purchase at the Weiser Public Library for $6 through March 29. Books will be available at the event for $10.  This presentation is suggested for ages 12 and up.
“This is a rare chance for someone to hear first-hand about surviving such a horrible time,” Chavez said. “In a world filled with hatred today, we need to remember that the Holocaust began not with camps, but with words.”
This event was made possible by a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council that Chavez received earlier this fall.  The Weiser Education Foundation and an anonymous donor also have donated to make this event possible.
Chavez would like to thank the members of the “Bring Marion to Weiser” Committee members who have volunteered many hours of their time.
If you have any questions about the event, please contact Michelle Chavez at Weiser High School 208-414-2595 or at Chavezm@weiserschools.org.
