Felines Needing Purrfect Homes will have cats available to adopt

Cats and dogs are two of the most common stray animals that can be found around the world, including Weiser, Idaho. The cats held at the Weiser pound experience a waiting period where they can be collected or adopted. Cats that have “timed out” or exceeded their waiting period are then euthanized. Felines Needing Purrfect Homes is an adoption effort created by Patty Shearer and Cheri Gordon, collecting cats from the Weiser pound that would otherwise be euthanized.
“It’s special to save animals lives,” said Shearer. “I feel like that this service is a great service for our community to help out…at least they’re being able to find another home.”
The first Saturday of every month has been singled out as a mass adoption day for Felines Needing Purrfect Homes. Their first official Saturday is Dec. 5 and are partnering with Dogs with Disabilities, giving individuals the opportunity to view and adopt both cats and dogs. Shearer and Gordon have already organized three adoption days and because of the success a designated day was arranged.
On the first Saturday, individuals interested in adopting a cat can visit the adoption site between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Interested parties eager to visit with cats may contact Shearer for an appointment any time during the month rather than wait for the specific Saturday. Adoptions have been arranged with individuals from all around including the Boise area, said Shearer. The adoption site holds up to 15 cats on a regular basis. The age range can span three months to eight years.
“We work really well with the pound to find homes for these kitties,” said Shearer. “He’s very kind and will always let me know. Our vet service…is great to us, too.”

A month and a half ago, Shearer and Gordon together decided to create a larger effort, calling themselves “Felines Needing Purrfect Homes.” The organization works with a local veterinarian to spay and neuter each cat as well as other necessary treatment. Shearer said having all the cats in one place rather than fostered out is helpful to allow interested parties to view all the animals. She asks extensive questions to help find the right cat for the home and the right home for the cat.
“We can’t let those poor babies be euthanized,” said Shearer.
Gordon said she originally fostered cats before joining in with Shearer. She was inspired to lend a hand after experiencing Shearer’s passion for helping animals. When Gordon decides to participate in anything, she said she gives it her all and wished to give her all to helping save the cats.
“Patty would be my inspiration,” said Gordon. “When I saw what Patty was doing and how much she was putting into it…I wanted to step up and help her.”
Patty Shearer can be reached at (208) 550-1677. The adoption location is 738 West Galloway St. Adoption hours on Dec. 5 are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will continue that time the first Saturday of every month. Felines Needing Purrfect Homes charges $20 for adoption.
