Washington County residents can vote early in the midterm election through Nov. 2 at the county courthouse or wait and cast their ballot on Election Day at the polls.
Voters also can request an absentee ballot from the county clerk by Oct. 26. Absentee ballots must be returned to the county clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Nov. 6.
Pre-registration to vote is now closed, but there are a couple of options to register and cast a ballot in the midterm election.
Residents can register and vote by in-person absentee until Nov. 2 at the county clerk’s office by providing valid forms of identification and proof of residency.
Idaho offers same-day voter registration at the polls. Any resident who is not currently registered to vote can bring a valid photo ID and proof of residency, such as a bank statement or utility bill, and register to vote.
To qualify to cast a ballot, an elector must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age, a resident of Idaho and must have lived in the county for 30 day prior to the election.
Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 6. Polls in Weiser, Midvale and Cambridge will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.
Voter registration in the county and statewide has historically favored Republicans over Democrats.
The Idaho Secretary of State keeps track of county voter registration numbers. As of Oct. 1, there were 5,140 registered voters in Washington County.
A total of 3,534 residents were registered as Republican, while 380 were registered as Democrats.
The number of county voters who didn’t choose a political party and registered as unaffiliated totaled 1,196. There were 22 registered Libertarians and eight voters registered with the Constitution party.
The statewide voter total as of Oct. 1 stood at 827,505.
Local residents can hear from candidates at a forum on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Vendome in Weiser.
Organizers said there will be several state candidates in attendance. Candidates for county offices are also invited.
While it is an off-year for the presidential race, there are many state offices to be decided on Nov. 6, including the governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, legislators and state superintendent.
There are also key measures to vote on, including Proposition 1, which would legalize historical horse racing, and Proposition 2, which would expand Medicaid.
